GPSIA Statement on the Nomination of

Brendan Carr as Chair, Federal Communications Commission

WASHINGTON, November 19, 2024 – Executive Director of the GPS Innovation Alliance Lisa Dyer issued the following statement on President-elect Trump’s nomination of Brendan Carr to be Chair, Federal Communications Commission:

“The GPS Innovation Alliance congratulates Commissioner Carr on his nomination as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission. Given Commissioner Carr’s private sector experience and time at the FCC, he is well-positioned to appreciate the importance of ensuring the more than six billion devices and receivers used today by people around the globe in many aspects of their daily lives can continue to rely on interference-free signals transmitted from the GPS and other Global Navigation Satellite Systems. Complementary space-based position, navigation, and timing systems have the potential to further the United States’ geopolitical and technological prestige as they are able to operate in an interference-free environment.

It is vital that the United States remain the world’s leading and preferred provider of space-based position, navigation, and timing systems that meet the stringent requirements necessary to support military operations, public safety, critical infrastructure, precision agriculture, and commercial customers alike. The GPS industry alone has contributed more than $1.4 trillion to the U.S. economy and we must ensure the regulatory environment continues to enable companies to create innovative applications that positively transform our economy and peoples’ lives. We look forward to working with Commissioner Carr in his role as Chair and with the FCC staff to advance policies that promote, protect, and enhance these space systems, their receivers, and devices.”
